India Launches Indigenous Cell Broadcast System for Real Time Disaster Alerts to Every Mobile Across States

Alerts bypass congestion and hit every device in range

India has launched an indigenous Cell Broadcast System that sends real-time, geo-targeted disaster warnings directly to mobile phones nationwide. Inaugurated in New Delhi by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia under Amit Shah’s guidance, it is built by C-DOT with NDMA and the Home Ministry. Operating across all 36 states and UTs, it uses CAP and works on 2G to 5G to reach people even during network congestion.

  • New CBS sends near real-time geo-targeted alerts to mobiles in defined areas
  • Built with CAP and aligned to UN early warning goals for faster, standardized communication
  • Works across 2G to 5G networks, including roaming, and supports multilingual messages
  • Tested in multiple states and showcased internationally to prove disaster readiness
