CBSE defends Class 12 OSM after JEE toppers allege failure revaluation opens May 19

OSM got slammed after students posted shocking subject marks

CBSE has responded to social media backlash over Class 12 Result 2026, where students reported unusually low marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, including claims by some JEE Main qualifiers that they failed board exams. The board defended its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, calling it fair, transparent and consistent due to stepwise evaluation. CBSE says revaluation and corrective checks will start from May 19, following a seven-year low pass percentage of 85.2%.

  • CBSE pass percentage fell 3.19% to 85.2%, the lowest in seven years
  • Students must score at least 33% separately in theory and practical to pass a subject
  • OSM is defended as stepwise marking for uniform, objective assessment
  • Revaluation window for Class 12 starts May 19, 2026
  • CBSE will accept revaluation applications from May 18, after requesting answer copies
  • Applicants can seek photocopy, mark verification, and re-evaluation through CBSE process
