4855 judicial officer vacancies leave 4.8 crore cases stalled across district courts nationwide

Nearly 5,000 posts vacant while cases pile up

District and subordinate courts across India have 4,855 vacant judicial officer posts against a sanctioned strength of 25,886, deepening a backlog of over 4.8 crore cases. The Law and Justice Minister said High Courts and state governments are responsible for filling the vacancies, while the Supreme Court has laid out timelines for recruitment.
