A national study by the Media Insight Project shows a major generational divide in news habits. While 36% of US adults say they get news from social media at least once a day, 57% of teens aged 13–17 do the same. Even as they rely more on influencers, many remain cautious about what they believe.
Meta says Australia’s ban on social media for under-16s is backfiring by funneling teens into less regulated alternatives. The company points to Lemon8 and yope, which aren’t covered by the restrictions, as their downloads surge in Australia. Meta argues the shift could reduce safeguards and increase safety risks for younger users.
