Former India coach Ravi Shastri believes Sanju Samson should be on the shortlist for India’s next T20I captaincy within the next two to three years. Speaking after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup win, Shastri pointed to Samson’s Player of the Tournament award and his sustained impact in IPL seasons, including Rajasthan Royals’ leadership. He also suggested the team may look beyond Suryakumar Yadav by 2028, when the current skipper will be 37, praising Samson’s maturity and destructive batting.
