Honda says it has indefinitely suspended plans for a multi-billion-dollar EV plant in Canada, dealing another blow to a tariff-hit auto sector. With Canada deeply integrated into North America’s car supply chain, Trump-era tariffs are hitting the industry especially hard, raising pressure on automakers’ investment timelines and future production plans.
Honda plans to begin introducing India-specific car models from 2028 as it rebuilds and expands its automobile business. The company says India is one of its top growth markets alongside North America and Japan, and will rework specifications to match local preferences. Honda also intends to lift two-wheeler production in India to about 80 lakh units by 2028 from 62.5 lakh, using strong motorcycle sales to encourage upgrades to passenger vehicles.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has launched the updated NX500 with E-Clutch, an electronically controlled clutch designed to automate engagement during starts, stops, and gear shifts. The middleweight adventure tourer aims to deliver clutch-free riding while using Honda’s system to manage transitions. The updated NX500 is priced at ₹7.43 lakh ex-showroom and bookings are open.
Through 2025 up to August, Ather and Hero have overtaken early laggards, while Honda—despite leadership in petrol scooters—has failed to attract buyers for its first electric model. Since 2022, the e-scooter market has seen rapid brand swings even as monthly volumes more than tripled from around 30,000 to over 100,000 units.
Honda says it will stop selling cars in South Korea by the end of 2026, while continuing after-sales services for existing customers. The move follows market shifts and Honda’s global restructuring. Instead, the automaker plans to concentrate more on motorcycles in South Korea and is also reportedly reducing petrol vehicle production in China.
