The Election Commission of India has ordered a complete repoll in West Bengal’s Falta Assembly constituency, declaring the April 29 election seriously vitiated. The decision follows reports of EVM tampering, procedural lapses, and alleged booth interference and voter intimidation. The fresh polling is scheduled for May 21, after irregularities surfaced around the voting machines.
Ahead of repolling in 15 booths in South 24 Parganas, Special Electoral Roll Observer Subrata Gupta said the security deployment will remain at the same scale, but vigilance will be heightened. The repoll follows reports of possible EVM tampering during the April 29 elections. Officials are preparing revised safeguards to address concerns and ensure a fair vote.
