This figure is notably lower than the earlier estimated ₹87,695 crore, and the government has allowed staggered payments, easing the immediate financial burden on the operator.
India is running a nationwide trial of a mobile-based disaster alert system jointly by the Department of Telecommunications and the National Disaster Management Authority. During the test, citizens may receive alert messages on their phones.
