Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister on May 10, 2026, at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. The win signals the first power shift in nearly six decades, ending the long-running DMK and AIADMK dominance, as PM Modi and other leaders sent wishes.
Amid Tamil Nadu’s post-election uncertainty, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin reportedly told DMK lawmakers he will not try to destabilise Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government for six months, if it is formed. The assurance comes as TVK, despite being the largest party, lacks a clear majority and is likely to rely on Congress support.
