Investigators reportedly found the solvents can carry toxic impurities. The regulator is consulting pharmaceutical companies to review current solvent practices and push safer alternatives, a move aimed at preventing further tragedies involving Indian-made syrups.
With at least 20 MP children blamed for deaths linked to Coldrif, investigators are zeroing in on how diethylene glycol, a highly toxic substance, could have ended up in cough syrup made by Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharma.
