The U.S. Department of State says it will phase out the Consulate General in Peshawar, citing safety risks to diplomatic staff and the need to manage resources. Going forward, U.S. diplomatic engagement for Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be handled by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. Other U.S. consulates in Pakistan will remain operational.
