The Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the probe into the shooting death of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was killed in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, two days after the BJP’s election win, with his driver also injured. Investigators seized a four-wheeler with a fake number plate from the spot.
Barasat police have detained three suspects linked to the Chandranath assassination and are interrogating them at Madhyamgram police station. A Special Investigation Team has been formed, headed by the IG CID, with officers from the IB and the Bengal STF involved. Authorities say the SIT will probe the Madhya area link and expand the investigation further.
