The Supreme Court has asked the Centre for its response to a plea seeking time-bound filling of vacant posts in the Armed Forces Tribunal. Pointing to a looming shortfall, the petitioner said only three of the tribunal’s 11 benches would be functional by year-end without fresh appointments. The bench also requested assistance from the Attorney General as it hears the matter.
The Centre has turned down Andhra Pradesh’s request to supply diesel at retail prices for Amaravati construction. Union Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal said the directive violates petroleum rules, warning that retail outlets are not licensed for bulk supply. He asked the state to withdraw the order, while Andhra said it will discuss the matter further with the Centre.
