Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Bengal’s “great people” for turning out in large numbers to vote, calling it a crucial part of the “festival of democracy.” Speaking at a public gathering in Hardoi, he urged voters to sustain the same enthusiasm throughout the remaining phase of polling and to keep participating until voting ends.
Ahead of phase 2 polling in Kolkata and several Bengal districts, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Kolkata residents are advised to carry umbrellas to polling stations, while Nadia, Hooghly, Medinipur and Purulia are also expected to see rainy conditions today.
