PIB Slams Viral Coal Panic Claim India Power Supply Still Meets Peak Demand

The Press Information Bureau has dismissed viral claims that coal shortages will trigger a nationwide power crisis and grid failures. In its clarification, PIB said India’s power supply remains robust, capable of meeting national demand. It noted that on May 2, 2026, peak demand reached 229 GW and was fully met without any shortage, calling the posts “misleading.”
